Opened in 1961 with the aim of reviving the mountain and its traditions, in 1967 Il Ciocco became Italy’s first resort. A hotel and tourist centre immersed in 600 hectares of natural parklands, its services and programs revolutionised the holiday market, offering leisure, sport and wellness, all in one solution.

The origins of Il Ciocco are even more deeply rooted, going back in time to the 1940s, when Luigi Marcucci, an emigrant to the United States, returned to his homeland to follow a dream. That dream was then pursued by his son Guelfo, who built the first nucleus of the accommodation business in the 1960s, and then by his descendants. Still today, the property is owned and managed by the same family.

In operation for over half a century, the mountain at Il Ciocco has been the scene of countless events related to history, literature, entertainment and sport. 

It has hosted famous football teams, Olympic champions, artists, and celebrities from the world of entertainment. Here, in 1984, the first European music television channel, Videomusic, was born.

In the fall of 2007 Il Ciocco was the headquarters of the filming of "Miracle at St. Anna" by director Spike Lee.

And in 2016, the North American production crew chose Il Ciocco as a partner while filming Jeff Baena's film “The Little Hours” in the Serchio Valley and in Garfagnana. 

These roads have periodically been the location of internationally renowned events in the world of enduro extreme, rally and cycling.  The Estate’s true calling is bikes of all kinds, confirmed in 2019, with the inauguration of the Il Ciocco Bike Circle.

Today Il Ciocco offers a kaleidoscope of possibilities: from family-friendly relaxation to the most adrenaline-packed sport, from meetings to corporate team building events, from meditative holidays for couples and small groups to lavish wedding ceremonies.
